STRANGLERS fans will need no introduction to Hugh Cornwell, the band's original guitarist, singer and main songwriter.

Cornwell’s set will be a celebration of his extensive music career and will feature such classics as Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Always the Sun, Nice N Sleazy and Skin Deep.

Scoring some 23 UK top 40 singles and 17 UK top 40 albums to date in a career spanning four decades, the Stranglers remain one of the longest-surviving bands to have originated in the UK punk scene of the mid to late 1970s.

While their aggressive, no-compromise attitude identified them as one of the instigators of the UK punk scene that followed, their idiosyncratic approach rarely followed any single musical genre and the group went on to explore a variety of musical styles, from New Wave, art rock and gothic rock through the sophisticated pop of some of their 1980s output.

Since leaving the band, Cornwell has enjoyed massive success and his latest studio album Totem and Taboo was released to rave reviews.

Hugh Cornwell will be performing at Bromsgrove's Artrix on Sunday, August 30 at 8pm.

Tickets cost £20 and are available from the box office on 01527 577330 or online at artrix.co.uk.
