MIDLANDS Today presenter Satnam Rana will officially open this year's St. Leonard’s Church Summer Fete.

The presenter will officiate the event, in Beoley, which draws in hundreds of people from around the county.

The afternoon fete will feature some traditional favourites including a coconut shy, white elephant stall, bouncy castle, face painting, mini-golf, tombola, a well-stocked plant stall, and musical performances by Alcester Victoria Band.

Children from Beoley First and Moons Moat schools, and the local rainbows, will be performing and visitors can enjoy many other stalls and attractions such as a farmer’s market.

If all that wasn't enough, inside the church Redditch Local History Society will have a fascinating display of ink drawings by Marcus Bartlett, generally based on photographs from the 1950s and 1960s.

Ample refreshments will be on offer, from barbecue, candy floss and ice cream, to ploughman’s lunches and cakes.

Rev Paul Irving said: “We’re crossing our fingers for good weather but come rain or shine, this is a real fun-packed afternoon for the whole family and the icing on the cake was to get Satnam to open it for us.

"We’re hoping that people will put the date in their diaries now to make sure they don’t miss it.”

The fete (50p to enter and free for those under 16) is on Saturday, July 4 from 1.30 to 4pm.

Minibuses will run throughout the afternoon from Beoley Village Hall where there is free parking, and Church Hill centre.

Parking for the disabled is outside the church.
