STAR Wars fanatics may not have to head to another galaxy to feel at one with their favourite characters, as it seems the Forest of Dean in nearby Gloucestershire is set to provide an out of this world holiday setting.

The arrival of a film crew to the Forest last June caused endless speculation over what was being filmed, now it seems since a thank-you letter from the producers to the cast and crew of Star Wars: Episode VII was leaked all questions have been answered.

The leaked letter is featured in a news story in today’s Independent newspaper and confirms all the fevered speculation there has been around the Forest communities such as Coleford, Cinderford, Newent and Ruardean. And that is the setting for a new Star Wars film, supposedly located in a galaxy far, far away, will in reality be the Forest.

The Independent’s story reveals that the day after stars including Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher celebrated the end of filming in a party at London’s Science Museum, a letter was sent to ‘the extraordinary cast and crew’ of Star Wars: Episode VII.

The letter went on to extol their ‘professionalism, passion and patience.’ Further to that it added: “From the deserts of Abu Dhabi, to the Forest of Dean, to the stages of Pinewood, you have risen to every challenge and been as wonderfully kind as you are brilliantly talented.” The enchanting Forest of Dean has been home to many TV scenes from Merlin to Doctor Who and now Star Wars it seems, but it could also be the set for a perfect cottage getaway.
