HAVING enjoyed a hugely successful run last year at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, To Kill a Mockingbird has this month embarked on a UK tour.

One of its first ports of call is Malvern's Festival Theatre where it will play for a week from Monday, September 29 through to Saturday, October 4.

Directed by Timothy Sheader, it originally opened Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s 2013 season to critical acclaim and sell out performances.

Due to popular demand, it will return to conclude the 2014 season at the Open Air Theatre which will also include All My Sons, Hobson's Choirce and The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess.

Proving its success across every art form, the 1960 novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, followed by the film adaptation in 1962 which won three Oscars out of the eight it was nominated for.

The producers of the UK tour of To Kill a Mockingbird have announced that they plan to add extra matinees for schools due to widespread demand from pupils eager to see the production on stage.

Producer Adam Spiegel said: “To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the best loved and most important works in the American canon.

"This stage production brilliantly brings to life Harper Lee’s text, and I am certain it will enhance the experience for young students studying the text.”
