A REDDITCH performer is getting the unique chance to share the stage with global superstars Kanye West and Bruno Mars.

Lucy May Walker will be performing live in front of thousands of people at Wireless Festival this Friday, July 4.

The singer, who graduated from the University of Cumbria with a first class BA (Honours) degree in performing arts, entered a competition to win a slot at the festival via Free Radio.

Thinking nothing would come of it, shortly after Lucy received an email saying that she'd been one of the successful acts to make it through to the final 28.

To make it down to the final 12 Lucy would have to get people to vote for her online.

It was announced live that she gained enough votes to win her a slot - but not before she found out by presenter Adam Wilbourn

She said: "When Adam called me I was really confused because I was told that if you got through you'd get a call live during his show. So when he called me a few hours before this, I didn't know what to think.

"He did a classic X-Factor style 'I'm really sorry to say this... but you're going to have to clear your diary for July' bit, then I went a bit crazy screaming down the phone. It's probably not the most professional I've ever sounded but it was hard to contain my excitement."

Lucy, who is currently working on her debut EP, added: "This is the first festival I am ever playing and to be on the same line up as people like Ellie Goulding, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, John Newman, and Labrinth is just incredible.

"I can't believe the success I am getting and I am only just starting. If this is a glimpse of what the future holds then I am really excited for what comes next"

Lucy will be performing an acoustic set with her guitarist Olly Vert on the Free Radio Stage at 3.20pm.

The festival runs on July 4 and 5 at Perry Park, next to Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.
