HOLIDAYS at home are expected to be hugely popular this year as the gloom of the UK's economic situation begins to bite - but if you want to lift that gloom there are plenty of places in this country, either on the coast or inland, that will help you do just that.
If you are planning a good, old-fashioned family holiday, and you intend to go self-catering, you will desire quality and value for money and the award-winning Hoburne Holiday Parks are destinations designed to do just that. Very much providing a home from home with all the comforts you could wish.
We - a family of four adults and one toddler - sampled their facilities at Doublebois, a tiny Cornish village between Liskeard and Bodmin, and although we are always active as a group on our breaks this proved to be a most relaxing and tranquil retreat.
The area is also an ideal base for getting around the numerous attractions of Cornwall. It stands astride the A38 and there is easy access to the busier and nearby seaside resorts of Fowey, Looe and Polperro to the south, Padstow, Newquay, Rock and Port Isaac to the north, or you can head off into the quieter wide-open spaces of Bodmin Moor.
Our base at Hoburne Doublebois - a splendid wooden lodge - was one of the site's first class Falcon range. It is high on quality and luxury with three double bedrooms, one en-suite, a separate bathroom, an integrated lounge, dining and kitchen area, and it was also - quite importantly with five of us (well four and a quarter) - spacious.
Furnishing and fittings are of a high standard and all around the site it looked extremely well cared for. And it is a big site too, containing not only around 30 lodges, but also a well stocked games room, tennis court, children's play area and, if you should be a golfer, then you have stumbled upon a holiday that is an ace in the pack as it also boasts its own private nine holes golf course which overlooks magnificent scenery.

Provided with a friendly welcome from Gill and David Hawkes, who have been looking after the site for some 20-plus years, the whole ethos is to provide families with a safe, relaxing and enjoyable environment. And they are certainly succeeding judging by the numbers who regularly return.
Not only are the newer Falcon lodges built and tastefully decorated and furnished to a high-spec, many of the older lodges on the site have just been completely renovated.
