Literary group decidedly in tune

THE Bromsgrove literary group, Words, met for the second time in their 2008 season last Friday, April 11, at the LG Harris Brushworks in Stoke Prior.

About 100 members welcomed music author Brian Southall to speak about the Business of Music.

Brian, born and brought up in Kidderminster, entertained and amused the audience with many a tale of the world of rock n' roll, from his 35 years working with the likes of The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and the Sex Pistols.

From the mysterious world of music publishing, where vast amounts of money are made (and lost), to the effect that illegal downloading will have on the music business in the future, Brian was always informative and had a ready stream of anecdotes about the rich and famous, not all of whom seem to have behaved as well as he would have liked!

Words meet again at LG Harris on Friday, June 20, at 8pm, when novelist and poet Jackie Kay will be the guest.

Tickets (£8) are available from 11c East Road, Bromsgrove, B60 2NW, 01527 875878, or Waterstones, High Street. Bromsgrove.
