ROXUM took their time writing songs for their debut album but say the results were worth the wait.

The five-piece Leicester-based band recently made their third visit to Base Studios in Stourbridge and the Base Sessions team was on hand for a chat.

Roxum founders Jack Jordan, James Dillon and Jamie Bennett met at school and formed a cover band called Aikon.

In 2005 they recruited singer Dale Taylor and began to establish themselves on the east Midlands music scene, developing their sound around club-style drum beats, hard hitting bass lines and powerful guitar riffs.

They renamed their band Roxum in 2008 and two years later recorded their first album - My Money’s on the Bear - at Parlour Studios in Kettering with producer Neil Haynes.

James Dillon said: “Putting the album together was the best time of our lives so far, it was the first time we heard the songs we had been playing for the last three years and it really gave us the chance to sit back and really shape and define our sound going forward”.

The band, which now includes bass player Callum Chapman, step-brother of Jack, who joined the band whilst studying music production at Leeds University, are making ambitious plans for the future.

James Dillon said: “Times are exciting for us right now and we just want to get out there and play as many places as we can to show people what Roxum are really about. We are really proud of the music we make and we have loved doing what we do since day one and we all truly believe we have what it takes to take this band to the next level.”
