If that summer wardrobe feels a bit tighter this year, now is the time to make a few small changes to shed those extra pounds and boost heart health in the process. 67% of men and 56% of women in England are overweight or obese, meaning many excess pounds to be lost and much to gain in terms of healthier blood pressure, cholesterol levels and reduced risk of diabetes and heart disease.
Calorie cutting tips; Eat plenty of wholegrain and higher fibre foods to keep you full longer.
Use smaller plates and bowls and savour each mouthful by chewing more slowly.
Ice lollies have less calories than ice creams, but homemade frozen pure fruit juice ones are even better.
Hunger pangs often signal thirst so reach for the water bottle first.
Cut out sugary drinks or go for just a glass as cans and bottles are higher in calories.
A pint of beer or large glass of wine has as many calories as a slice of cake or fizzy drink; choose low-calorie options instead.
Calorie burning tips; Always use the stairs and watch your fitness improve and legs tone up.
Get off the bus earlier for a longer healthier brisk walk.
An after dinner walk will help digestion and get you away from that tempting food cupboard.
For a more productive activity, swap TV for some gardening or housework.
Cutting down while burning more calories is a sure way to lose those pounds, increase your fitness, improve your heart health and make those summer clothes fit nicely.
